UPIAV is permanently fighting in defense of small and medium size agricultural producers in order to assist them in confronting problems that slow their development as well as to help them, in conjunction with other public and private organizations, with other management issues.
UPIAV is permanently pursuing claims at the national and local government levels in a continual attempt to obtain better conditions for its members and their communities, improvements to road and communication infrastructures, better conditions in education, health and work, and advantages for small and medium producers.
These claims are also based on conserving the values and principles important to Costa Rican society, as well as defending fundamental human rights.
As a social organization, UPIAV justifies its struggle by looking to the great need to fight against the accelerated deterioration of the living conditions of rural farming families through proposals that will transform organized small producers into successful protagonists who are responsible for their own development. This will in turn strengthen national production, the Costa Rican economy, and the institution of the family.
