Get to know our members

The type of producer who forms part of our organization is generally involved in activites such as the cultivation of coffee, sugar cane and basic grains (corn, beans). In fewer numbers are found members who produce fruit and vegetables, and, among other things, are involved in cattle rearing.

The geographic situation of our county allows for the diversification of agriculatural activities. It is therefore not uncommon to find that many of our members are involved in two or more distinct activities.

The family aspect of UPIAV afiliated producers is important to protect, since families act as the economic unit dedicated in an integrated way to economic activities. Family organisation offers the human being personal development, survival in the community and is the means by which a person is integrated into the community. Thus, for us, the family holds great importance.

After 29 year of struggle and important achievements, as well as the meeting of local and national projections, and international participation which has left a great richness to our beloved instution, we have proposed, as organized producers, the following strategic goals:

To be producers who are capable of protecting agricultural production beyond subsistence levels through direction and technical consultation;

To eliminate intermediaries and to access final markets and agro-industry;

To access sufficient and correct information about markets as well as appropriate technologies and producer financing programs;

To arrange opportunties for the diversification of production including organic agriculture which is in closer harmony with the environment.

The principles that inspire and form part of our orginizational culture are as follows:

Solidarity - Peace - Human Being - Equality -
Family - Democracy - Liberty - Justice.
